This collection documents six decades of play-related research, teaching, and writing by Brian Sutton-Smith, one of the foremost figures in play scholarship. The papers contain notes, manuscripts, reprints, correspondence, data, clippings, and some photographs. The material in the collection reflects Dr. Sutton-Smith's interdisciplinary research in psychology, education, and folklore; his teaching at three American universities; and his numerous publications.

Brian Sutton-Smith, native of New Zealand, holds a Ph. D. in education and teaches at the University of Pennsylvania as an adjunct professor in the Folklore Department.
